Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo has declared that the major role of legislatures is to influence law and policymaking that will impacts the lives of the public positively.

Honourable Adeyemo made the declaration today while delivering his opening remarks at Southwest Cross Learning Event on Constituency Engagement, organized by Southwest Legislature Reform Implementation Committee, held at Western Hall, Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Stressing further, the Speaker said it is also an avenue to promote and process ways that makes the constituents feel and have ownership of parliament and her activities.

Honourable Adeyemo also said that, it is essential for the legislators to regularly and constantly reach out and interact with their constituents, with a view to understand their needs and local priorities.

He attributed further that the lawmakers in the present House of Assembly in Oyo State will not relent in their commitment to bring dividends of democracy to the people at grass root through constituency projects and various oversight functions.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Southwest Legislative Reform Implementation Committee and the Majority Leader, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye noted that the purpose of the programme is to create platform for Oyo and Lagos States Houses of Assembly to share their constituency engagement approaches with others states in the southwest with a view to create effective implementation and development of the region.

Among the people present at the program are the Speakers, Deputy Speakers, Majority leaders and other members of the Houses of Assembly in the Southwest region of Nigeria.
